The Toyota GR86 has become sharper in handling
September 20, 2024 90 Toyota
The company reported that specialists from Toyota Gazoo Racing's motorsport division have reconfigured the characteristics of the shock absorbers and electric power steering. For the manual transmission versions, throttle settings were also changed, while the automatic transmission variant saw an expanded range of initial gears. As a result, the handling became sharper and the overall driving experience improved, according to Gazoo Racing. The re-tuned throttle on manual transmission cars makes the accelerator response more direct and also simplifies control in extreme conditions.
Starting from the mid-level SZ trim, the coupe is now equipped with tire pressure monitoring. The top-end RZ version now includes daytime running lights.
Additionally, a special edition Ridge Green Limited has been released—based on the RZ version but with a number of styling differences. In particular, this version features an exclusive Ridge Green shade (dark green metallic) for the body, while the wheels are finished in bronze (tire size 215/40 R18). Ventilated Brembo brake discs (4-piston front, 2-piston rear) and Sachs shock absorbers are used. The interior has gold accents. The Ridge Green Limited will be produced in a limited series of 200 units.
The updated GR86 is priced in Japan from 2,936,000 to 3,995,000 yen.
At the same time, the Cup Car Basic modification, aimed at motorsport enthusiasts, has also been improved. The throttle and electric power steering were reconfigured as well. Special shock absorbers and suspension springs are offered, along with a new high-performance oil cooler.
The Toyota GR86 is powered by a 2.4-liter horizontally opposed gasoline engine, producing 235 hp and 250 Nm of torque.
